Diskurs-Arena (sustainability and ethics in teacher training)

  • The project provides the opportunity to practise critical discussion skills and thus complements university training with an ethical component.
  • The seminar provides students who have value-oriented teaching goals with an overview of the basics in the area "education for sustainable development".
  • Participants take on different perspectives to intensively look at the ecological, social and economical challenges of our time as well as their own values.

DISKURS-ARENA (sustainability and ethics in teacher training) is an interdisciplinary cooperation project of the Chair for Christian Social Ethics, the Research Unit for Values Education and Teacher Training and the corresponding philosophical chairs. The seminar prepares students for the eco-social challenges of a globalised world. Individual lifestyles and moral values are intensively reflected on and students acquire the competence to encourage such reflection also in their lessons. Based on the methodological and content-related stimuli a lesson unit will be designed by the students. At the end of the seminar participants are able to critically and responsibly reflect on moral values, to take on an authentic role in teaching and to methodically lead a discussion during a lesson.

The creation and analysis of appropriate lesson recordings is the basis for the methodical approach of the seminar. Lesson material and recordings will be published on the online portal to enable collaborative work on the material by the students.

In addition, theses topics which evaluate the project (both for teaching degree as well as Master students) are being offered. Cooperation amongst existing internal and external partners ensures interdisciplinarity and interaction between science and the society.
