Teacher Training with a Focus on Communication and Classroom Management

  • In the framework of LehramtPRO (extracurricular workshop and course programme) LMU's Teacher Education Centre offers the teacher training courses "Münchner Lehrertraining (MLT)" (Munich teacher training) and "KlasseTeam - Emotional intelligent durch den Schulalltag" (mastering school with emotional intelligence).
  • MLT prepares students for the professional stress of their traineeship, especially with regard to dealing with discipline issues.
  • KlasseTeam provides pedagogical and psychological routines for dealing with challenging situations with a positive attitude.

Both training courses are offered as multi-day block modules and lead by two experienced certified teachers.

During the MLT course difficult teaching and conversational situations are presented through role play with video feedback. Participants simulate various solutions and forms of correction as well as discussions with parents and pupils displaying behavioural problems. They learn about ways to plan lessons in order to prevent discipline issues. In addition they deal with their own expectations regarding the teaching profession and discuss work-life balance.

KlasseTeam shows typical situations in everyday school life and provides with tried and tested methods for dealing with problematic situations. They are practised in a protected environment. Participants can thus put together their personal "box of methods". They learn to adopt a positive basic attitude. The training course teaches how to prevent and tackle disruptions and bullying in a professional manner. At the same time it is shown how to boost pupils in their own competence in conflict solution.

The course offer will be further enhanced in the coming years. In 2016 three MLT and eight KlasseTeam training courses were held with a total of approx. 200 participants (that is about 15-20% of teaching students of one year). They evaluated the courses as "very good".
