SeLF - Self-examination regarding the teaching profession with the help of film stimuli: offers for schools

  • Short video sequences pick out situations of day-to-day teacher life and offer a basis for reflection of one’s personal aptitude.
  • The material is available online for students, lecturers and coaches and can be taken as a starting point for discussion and reflection according to one’s needs.
  • SeLF can already be used during the qualification phase in secondary school (Q11/Q12) for career guidance purposes.

SeLF is an online aptitude advisory service offered by TEC. A total of 16 events or situations from everyday school life are presented in short, three to four minute long videos. In addition to the challenges and issues presented in the videos, there is supporting material available to give reference points for taking a conscious look at the teaching profession and the central tasks and challenges it poses.

This way SeLF supports those interested in studying to become teachers together with current students in gaining a realistic assessment of the profession and in reflecting critically on their own aptitude for this work. Through feedback on the self evaluation motives and dispositions can be challenged and thus provide a "reality check".

The offer is aimed at:

  1. potential future students and current students, who want to reflect on their job choice,
  2. study advisors and career guidance counsellors, who want to use SeLF as a concrete starting point for individual counselling,
  3. lecturers at university, regarding traineeship or teacher training as a source of inspiration for various topics in seminar and work groups.

In the framework of LEHRERBILDUNG@LMU especially the offers for potential future students will be expanded. Coaches trained by TEC will be leading workshops for study and career guidance for the teaching profession during the qualification phase in secondary schools (Q11/Q12).
