Coaching für Lehramtsstudierende (coaching for teaching students)
"Studying more consciously - reflecting on your aptitude - developing your own teacher personality"
As part of the coaching for teachers project (“Coaching im Lehramt”), pre-service teachers get the opportunity to find an experienced and specially qualified teacher who will coach them individually and accompany them throughout their studies – from day one at the university all the way to traineeship. The goal is to reflect on the contents of their studies based on the real-life background of school in order to be able to get more out of the content for their individual professional development.
As part of the project the following offerings are available to students:
Course | Target group |
---|---|
Workshop "Lehramtsstudium - erfolgreich starten!" (How to start your teacher training successfully) | First-year students |
Coaching nach Bedarf: Sichern Sie sich Ihren persönlichen Coach! (Coaching as needed: Get your own personal coach!) | Students of all semesters |
"Souverän im Klassenzimmer - Coaching & Training für eine starke Lehrerpersönlichkeit" (Classroom confidence – develop a strong teacher personality with coaching and training) | 3rd semesters and above |
Workshop "Lehramtsstudium - erfolgreich starten!" (How to start your teacher training successfully)
How do I study "correctly"? What motivated me to choose the teacher's profession? What are the requirements involved in being a teacher? Which capabilities are most important? To study consciously right from the start will pay off later during traineeship and service as a teacher. This one-day workshop takes place during the orientation phase and facilitates the transition from school to university while raising awareness for the requirements and personal capabilities of the teaching profession. During the first part of the workshop an experienced TEC adviser will give valuable tips for your studies. An experienced teacher (coach) will tell you more about coaching and the offered training for developing a strong teacher personality during the second part of the workshop.
Coaching nach Bedarf (Coaching as needed)
What will I need to know later as a trainee and as a teacher? How do I solve problems with discipline, conflicts and antagonism? What do I need to do to confidently conduct parent-teacher conferences? How to lead a group? Those are questions many students have. While these topics are discussed theoretically during your studies, a coach will help you to consolidate what you have learned and apply those teachings to practice. Individual coaching will provide answers not only for the above questions, but to further aspects such as the understanding of one's role, classroom leadership, disciplinary problems, classroom disruptions, rhetoric, non-verbal communication, group dynamics, conversational skills, team work etc. To this end, more than 30 experienced and specially qualified teachers of all school types and branches of study are available throughout your entire studies. Students can go online to the restricted section of the TEC portal and choose a suitable coach to help them with their individual concerns. In contrast to counselling, which focuses on transferring information and recommendations, coaching is about the coach (experienced teacher) accompanying the student on an interactive, voluntary basis. Emphasis is placed on dialogue, trust and being on par with one another. Coaching is designed to follow the individual needs of the student. Together with their coaches, students get the opportunity to explore topics that are relevant to practical aspects of teaching in individual coaching sessions or small groups.
"Souverän im Klassenzimmer - Coaching & Training für eine starke Lehrerpersönlichkeit" (Classroom confidence – develop a strong teacher personality with coaching and training)
This innovative and hands-on training concept, 'Classroom confidence – develop a strong teacher personality with coaching and training', promotes the student’s ability to reflect about lessons as well as the development of personal capabilities and raises awareness of the challenges facing a teacher. The concept combines training sessions with coaching sessions in small groups to consolidate lessons learnt. There are two courses which, in the form of two-day trainings, examine the following topics:
Classroom confidence I
- Find your role and attitude as a teacher (learning support)
- Assess and use non-verbal communication
- Being a strong presence in the classroom and training one's own perception
- Conduct discussions and parent-teacher conferences confidently and constructively
Classroom confidence II
- Recognize and influence group dynamics
- Promote the solving of conflicts and prevent disciplinary problems
- Resolve antagonism in the classroom
- Enhance leadership in the classroom
Subsequently, the training sessions will be combined with bi-weekly coaching sessions to consolidate these relevant topics. Students will be given the opportunity to explore and to engage intensely with their personal capabilities, while being supported by an experienced teacher, who will accompany them individually throughout the entire course of their studies. The students earn ECTS credits for successful participation.
